Went backpacking through Panther Creek trail with Clara, Allen, and Ricky. Was originally supposed to be just me and Clara which I was a bit anxious for. I seem to find doing any sort of activity one-on-one a bit too much. The sense that there is only one other conscious soul within proximity to engage in creates tension for me. Maybe it's the same way for others, maybe it isn't, but it sure is for me. Definitely need to start going backpacking more. I have the gear and I have the will (I think.) Just need to go out and do it. Probably need to learn how to set up camp against bears and get some better rain gear and learn how to rainproof my jackets. Anyway, we ended up going with me driving because I like to drive. On the way there, I wasn't 100% sure of the way and started to get nervous that I had gone the wrong way. Pulled it up on my GPS and I was going the right way after mulling it for a while. I'm terrible with directions. TERRIBLE.
We arrived at our destination and started our hike in. Started later than I wanted to but it ended up working out because we just set up camp with a few hours to spare before it got dark. Didn't have time to go down to the falls itself because the sun would be coming down. Got to play around with my ND filter and got some great shots. We'll see what else I can do with it. Photography is coming along nicely but still need better composition and be less fearful of using my camera. Anyway, we started drinking a little at camp with weed being smoked (not by me) around the campfire. Allen and Ricky wanted music while we were out there which I found annoying because I'm out there to listen to just the sounds of nature. Still annoys me a little just thinking about it, but I can't really blame them because I was the same when I first started. Morning came and we hiked down to the falls. Took a nap. Had some INTENSE dreams when I lapsed from sleep to sleep.
Got back home around three and ate some donkatsu. Had to rush in order to get to Jay Austin's place in time for the July 4th trip. Picked up a six pack and hauled ass to his place over in Edgewood. Didn't even get moving until 7:30 even though there was a "strict" time of 5:30. Didn't really bother me though 'cuz I got to meet a really cool couple. Paige and her boyfriend are pretty damn cool people. Hope I get to know them better later on. Got to the Middleton Towers over by Morris Brown and found the super easy POE. Did our usual gear-up and immediately saw three others in the lower floors. Scrappers? Not sure. Exchanged glances and were about to go our separate ways when Paige from our group quietly exclaiming, "Cops. Cops. Cops." I jump into go-mode and quickly pack up some gear and go out the front door which was thankefully unlocked. Walked out onto the sidewalk and tried to casually walk down making some bullshit conversation with Jay. Cops cranked up their music on the side street and we were all nervous. They talked to us and I got pretty scared and tried to play it off. They were actually really nice and said it was cool if we went in. One of them even joked and said, "Don't fall down the elevator shaft! Remember to take a rope!" We headed back inside and on our way up we heard dogs barking from behind a door on the sixth floor. Kinda creepy knowing that some homeless man is keeping dogs as pets from there. Reached the top. I got some incredible frisson while up there because it was just so beautiful and couldn't wait for the fireworks to start. It started. And lasted maybe ten minutes. Kinda let me down but it was definitely fun to get drunk on a roof like that. Good times.
