HOBO CARE PACKAGE

///QUEST TO MAKE A COST-EFFECTIVE HOBO CARE PACKAGE
Getting back from Okeechobee Music Festival I wanted to start making changes to my actions for the world and be more active once again. Been a bit complacent and apathetic towards the homeless I see which I don't like since KBEK is still a thing and much appreciated. On to my some observations/commentary on what I've learned so far.

I want to stay cost-effective for sure and am wanting to procure a package that is <$5 so that others might follow suit and that would be the end goal of this endeavor/project. I'm sure a lot of people are like me and certainly want to help the homeless but are simply jaded from having to deal with them on a daily basis and wondering if the money handed out really is going to good use. (This is why websites like CharityNavigator.com exist to help people put their donations to the most efficient programs.) Sucks not knowing where the money might go and definitely sucks when you see the person in the grocery store after telling the biggest sob story buying a pack of beer. Asshole.
Here go some items that in the fetus stage of creating this list will for sure be in the bag:
  • band-aids: $12.35 x 500 ($.025/ea)
  • Ziploc bags: $12.20 x 208 ($.058/ea)
  • hair comb: $8.74 x 72 ($.12/ea)
  • microfiber towel: $0.74
  • pack of vitamins: $15.64 x 500 ($.03/ea)
  • hand wipes/sanitizer: $15.22 x 25 ($.61/ea)
  • socks: TBD
  • coupons: TBD
  • zip ties: $0.99 x 200 ($.005/ea)
  • pens: $9.95 x 80 ($.12/ea)
  • notepads: $9.95 x 20 ($.50/ea)
  • books: TBD
  • eating utensil: $3.29 x 6 ($.55/ea)
I'll have to figure out the numbers/cost of each item and how many/quantity of each item to put in each back to add up to a decent amount but this is a good list to start with.

(God damn I wish I knew how to use Excel. Putting this all in a spreadsheet in an easily accessible way would help out so much with organizing, but alas I don't know jack shit about Excel. Sad.)

It's already seeming like this bag is going to be well over five dollars if I want to put in everything I wanted. Probably will at the very least be around the ten dollar range which kind of sucks.

Next stage on optimizing the bag is asking some homeless people I know what they think would be most useful that wouldn't cost too much and what they think of the list I've created already. Best bet would be Tony since he's always around and knows what's up.
